These one day events are aimed at equipping elders, ministry teams and volunteers in a local church or group of churches in an area. The content of the training will be shaped by the feedback from our interactions with Senior Leaders. In 2021 and 2022, we will be running a Training Day specifically designed for Eldership & Governance teams. This will be offered at three separate times during the year and spread geographically.

Eldership & Governance

In this training day we will allow space for groups of Elders to be strengthened for their leadership, growing together and inspired through teaching and networking with other like-minded leaders. There will be 4 sessions, with content from Brad Carr and Igor Gerritsen, followed by time for processing in church teams. This is designed for your team of current and future/prospective Church Elders.

The training day will run from 9 am-3pm and include morning tea.  BYO lunch.

Topics for 2022 are:

  • The Call to shepherd
In 1 Peter 5:1-2, the apostle Peter commanded elders to “be shepherds of God’s flock.” What exactly does that look like? What does it mean to shepherd? And do I see myself as one?
  • Balancing governance and shepherding
We’re called to govern and lead as overseers. But we’re also called to shepherd. With only so much time in meetings and in life, how do we ensure we fulfil both sides of our elder responsibilities?.

  • Establishing a shepherding structure.  Many churches have multiple ways of shepherding people –small groups, pastoral care teams, paid staff. So what is the role of elders in care and shepherding? How do elders delegate effectively while staying informed and engaged?
  • Shepherding the shepherds
Most leaders are starved of encouragement and care, and are left struggling under the weight of ministry. How can we create leadership cultures where the shepherds care for one another well?
